Civil Rights Film Fest

January 5, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join us in a prelude celebration of African American Heritage Month with film screenings, communal dialogue, panel discussions, and participatory audience commentary segments. Films to be screened celebrate extraordinary women.

Highlighted feature films:
Alice Walker: Beauty in Truth
Film Length – 84 minutes
This film tells the compelling story of an extraordinary woman’s journey from her birth in a paper-thin shack in the cotton fields of Georgia to her recognition as a key writer of the twentieth Century. Alice Walker made history as the first black woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for her groundbreaking novel, “The Color Purple” — a universal story of triumph against all odds that is not all that different from Walker’s own.

Don’t Tell Anyone
Film Length – 75 minutes
In a community where silence is often seen as necessary for survival, undocumented activist Angy Rivera steps out of the shadows to share her parallel journey of being an undocumented immigrant and a victim of sexual assault.

Co-sponsored by Las Vegas Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Free and open to the public. For more information, please call 702.507.3989.
