State Equality Organizations

Equality California (EQCA) works to achieve equality and secure legal protections for LGBT people. To improve the lives of LGBT Californians, EQCA sponsors legislation and coordinates efforts to ensure its passage, lobbies legislators and other policy makers, builds coalitions, develops community strength and empowers individuals and other organizations to engage in the political process.

Equality Utah, an IRS 501(c)(4) organization, is the state’s largest LGBT civil rights organization. Equality Utah leads efforts for LGBT civil rights at the state and local levels through a range of strategies including lobbying legislators and other elected and appointed officials; sponsoring bills and opposing negative legislation; building coalitions; and empowering individuals and other organizations to engage in the legislative process.

Basic Rights Oregon is the state’s chief advocacy, education and political organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. BRO is a 501(c)4 organization that maintains a 501(c)3 (Basic Rights Education Fund), a state candidate PAC and a ballot measure PAC. Combined, these organizations have an annual budget of close to $1 million.

Equal Rights Washington is a statewide political advocacy organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community of Washington State. ERW works to end discrimination against LGBT people throughout the state.

Equality Florida is a statewide education and advocacy organization dedicated to eliminating discrimination based on sexual orientation, race, gender and class. The organization reaches over 50,000 Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Supportive households in Florida, making it one of largest civil rights groups working at the state level.

Georgia Equality, Inc. undertakes political action to build a fair majority in Georgia. We are currently implementing the Campaign for a Fair Majority – our strategic plan for LGBT equality in Georgia. Year-round lobbying and strategic involvement in state and local elections are working to build a bi-partisan fair majority in the state legislature and among local elected officials across the state.

Equality Ohio is a non-partisan organization that serves as an advocate and champion for fair treatment and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens, engages and empowers individuals, families, organizations, businesses and institutions in Ohio’s urban, suburban, and rural areas and collaborates with local, regional, statewide, and national organizations and government agencies.

Equality Maryland is Maryland’s largest LGBT civil rights group, with thousands of members across the entire state. Equality Maryland is a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization that lobbies in Annapolis and across the state to create equal protection under the law for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Marylanders and their families.
